What do we know about this? It's 5-6 episodes (six, but it's unclear whether the sixth will be released outside of the game); the first 5 episodes are streaming on Crunchyroll, YouTube, and presumably more locations. Heck, it's on YouTube, I'll put the video stream at the bottom for you to watch without having to click away so it's here too!
The anime is such a ridiculously high quality as to inspire uncanny valley feelings. Seriously, check out this burger:
Think about this for a second. A director and probably a team of people consciously decided to animate the heck out of this burger. More money and effort probably went into making this burger than any actual burger in the history of mankind.
At first, I thought it was going to be a lesson in patience and anticipation, nothing than an extended tease that wouldn't have any sort of satisfaction until Sep 30 (the release of the game) and only appropriate for uber-fans. But then there's the tease of a multi-armed lamia at the beginning and a pretty sweet action scene at the end (albeit cliffhanger ending).
I'm not going to deny the emotion I felt swelling as the battle was joined and the strain of Prelude could be heard mixed in with the music, but I do think that it's cheating by playing to emotions the series has developed over the course of the last 25 years.
But then here we are. Cliffhanger ending. Do we know when the next episode is going to come? Will it be next week like a normal anime? Or will they string these out over the course of the next 5 months (5 episodes, 5 months . . . ugh).
I'll post some spoiler-y pictures after the video at the bottom, so don't scroll down too far if you are worried about the ending of a 12 minute first episode of a show.
Don't go any farther if you haven't watched the first episode yet. I mean, the first episode is literally three lines above this, so you have to actively be avoiding following directions, but c'mon, I know some people are just going to scroll through.
Robot soldier? Yes please!
Now *that's* a splash screen!
So what did you think of the first episode? Are you excited for this? Think of it as a bloated budget for a glorified marketing ploy? Will this increase your enjoyment of the game?
